Oulton Park

April 14 2007

Round 1 of the 2007 Porsche Open kicked off last weekend with a double header at Oulton Park.

With only 2 test days under our belt following winter upgrades we are still undergoing various  changes to the car.

Qualifying was a 'suck it and see' style set-up and despite Rupert tripping over a few back markers on his flyers we managed a 1.44.8. just behind Paul Hogarth on a 1.44.5.

Race 1 - was a text book win, good start, Rupert put in some early flyers to pull away from the pack, and in the 12 laps Rupert increased his lead to 10 seconds over Paul Hogarth in his 997 GT3 Cup who came 2nd.

Race 2 - was quite the opposite, Rupert had a bad start, resulting in ending up at the back of a pack of 3 GT3 Cup cars battling for position. It took a few laps to cleanly pass these cars, by which time Paul Hogarth had made off into the sunset. Rupert quickly caught him up, but on trying to go up the inside coming out of Knickerbrook Paul turned in on the GT2R's rear quarter, causing Rupert to spin off. With bodywork rubbing on the tyre this was game over for us. Paul went on to win with Mike Donavan second.

With Snetterton only next weekend, we hope to have the GT2R back out in action but it may be still complete with war wounds!
